Biography


Venezuelan tenor, Eduardo Calcaño is known for his “full, resonant timber with a good ring in the top range combined with an astute sense of musical phrasing.” (The Tribune) He began his studies at Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria and completed at Giuseppe Verdi’s Conservatory in Milano, Italy under the guidance of Pier Miranda Ferraro and Franco Ferraris.

He has sung extensively through out the USA, Europe, and South America. Some significant roles for Mr. Calcaño are Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana), Canio (I Pagliacci), Alfredo (La Traviata), I Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), Rodolfo (La Boheme), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Manrico (Il trovatore), Don Jose (Carmen), Radames (Aida), Title role (Andrea Chenier) and many others. At the invitation of Joan Dornemann from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, he sang in Tel Aviv, Israel the role of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor. At a recent performance of Cav/Pag, where Mr. Calcaño sang both tenor leading roles, he was signaled out as “powerful voice and excellent…in both romantic & dramatic moments.” (The Time of Trenton)

Among his many operatic roles, Mr. Calcaño has an intensive repertoire of Zarzuelas and Operettas. Some of those works are Cecilia Valdes, Amalia Batista, La Leyenda del Beso, Los Gavilanes, La Dolorosa, Die Lustige Witwe and many more. In 2002, he had the honor of participating in a Spanish Music Concert at Weil Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall.

Upcoming engagement for Mr. Calcaño is Radames (Aida) at Mosaico Cultural in Guatemala City. He will also sing in many concert appearances in many locations nationwide.

Mr. Calcaño resides in New York City and studies private voice with Maestros Manny Perez and Bill Schuman.
